Medicine Lodge Ranch is located just minutes from the Clark Canyon Reservoir off of MT Highway 324. The nearest town, Dillon, MT, offers a vast selection of services and is easily accessed from Interstate 15.  Additional amenities and a commercial airport can be found 1.5 hours away in Idaho Falls, ID.

COMMUNITY

Dillon, MT is the county seat of Beaverhead County and agriculture remains the predominant industry, supported by the area’s recreational tourism.

Dillon offers a considerable array of commercial, institutional, and social enterprises including grocery, banking, auto-dealers, movie theater, churches, restaurants, hotels, and taverns.  Barrett Memorial Hospital offers a large range of medical and specialist services to Dillon and surrounding area residents.  Two long-term elderly care facilities are also located in Dillon.  The education system includes two elementary schools, one middle school and one high school.  The higher education system was established in 1892 with The Montana Normal College, now called University of Montana-Western.  Private aircraft service is available at the Dillon airport with a 6,500 ft paved strip.  Expanded international commercial air services are available in Idaho Falls, ID.

To the south is where the bustling town of Idaho Falls, ID sits. There is an estimated 52,716 people who call the city home. It is situated along the Snake River and has all the features of big city living while still embracing a small-town charm. Offering its own symphony, opera, chamber orchestra, community drama, performing arts groups, museums, zoos, golf courses, airport, shopping, higher education facilities and of course professional minor league baseball, it’s hard to imagine finding nothing to do in this town.

HISTORY

When the Clark Canyon Dam was in completed in 1964, the Clark Canyon Reservoir inundated the former Armstead townsite. This townsite was near the site of Camp Fortunate where the Lewis & Clark Expedition met the Shoshone Indians and where Sacajawea recognized her brother.

Both the Union Pacific Train that ran from Salt Lake City to Butte and the Gilmore and Pittsburgh Railroad had depots there.  One of those depots was transferred to the Medicine Lodge Ranch and is currently used as a horse barn. (See photo below).

CONSIDERATION TO AGRICULTURE

The current owners are currently grazing 240 pairs and 12 bulls for 90 days along with their personal saddle horses. Medicine Lodge Ranch is the perfect setup to run yearlings or sell grass for pasture cattle.  This ranch consists of 621.54+/- deeded acres, which sell with State and BLM Leases. Approximately 50+/- acres can be flood irrigated from Medicine Lodge Creek which also meanders through the building compound.
